Are Ragdolls Suitable to Live with dogs?

Many of my adopter families already have other pets, including dogs, rabbits, hamsters, and even reptiles. From what I’ve seen and been told, our Ragdoll cats get along extremely well with these pets. Their dogs range from large and medium breeds to small breeds. Whether it’s a Border Collie, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, or smaller dogs like Yorkshire Terriers and Poodles, they often become great friends.

Occasionally, there may be minor frictions—just like siblings in the same household—but there are never serious conflicts. Sometimes, it even feels as though the cat becomes the leader of the entire pet family.

Are Ragdolls Suitable to Live with Children?

Many of my adopter families choose Ragdoll cats because they want a companion to grow up with their children. Based on extensive feedback, Ragdolls’ gentle and intelligent temperament allows them to get along exceptionally well with kids.

Of course, during this process, it’s also important to teach children certain things—such as showing pets proper respect and not forcing them to do things they’re uncomfortable with. Children sometimes lack a sense of boundaries, and some of their actions may unintentionally hurt or stress a pet. At the same time, this becomes a wonderful opportunity to teach children empathy, responsibility, and respect for living beings.

Do Ragdoll cats shed hair?

Yes.

Brushing your Ragdoll cat on a routine basis helps prevent matting and tangles, especially in common problem areas such as the armpits and under the chin. While Ragdoll fur is generally low-maintenance and not easily prone to matting, consistent grooming is still essential for proper Ragdoll coat care.

In addition to regular brushing, proper multivitamin supplements can support overall Ragdoll coat health, improve coat shine, and strengthen the fur. With correct Ragdoll grooming practices and nutrition, your Ragdoll cat’s coat can remain smooth, healthy, and beautiful long-term.

Do Ragdoll cats use a litter box?

All of our Ragdoll kittens are fully litter box trained before going to their new homes. Ragdoll kittens typically begin using the litter box at around 40 days old. Their mother naturally starts guiding them to use the litter box when they are about one month old. In addition, we use multiple proven litter box training methods to help each Ragdoll kitten smoothly learn and develop consistent litter box habits.

By the time our Ragdoll kittens leave our cattery, they are already comfortable with the litter box and have established reliable litter box behavior, making the transition to their new home much easier for new owners.

How to guide a Ragdoll to use the litter box in a new home?

When a Ragdoll moves to a new home, proper litter box placement and quantity are essential for a smooth transition.
First, make sure the litter box is placed in an easy-to-find and easily accessible location, as cats need time to adjust to a new environment. If the litter box is hidden or difficult to reach, stress and anxiety may cause accidents outside the box, especially during the first day. If urine scent is left behind, it can later develop into an unwanted habit. In addition, the number of litter boxes should be determined based on the cat’s activity range. If the cat has free access to the entire home, consider how inconvenient it would be for people to share only one bathroom in a house with multiple bedrooms. For two-story homes, it is highly recommended to place litter boxes on both levels. Our Ragdoll cats are accustomed to open litter boxes rather than enclosed or automatic ones, as those options usually require additional training and guidance.

Why Ragdoll Kittens Need a Small Room in a New Home

Ragdoll kittens need a smaller, controlled environment when they first arrive at a new home because it helps them feel safer and more comfortable while reducing stress.
When moving to a new home, the best starting space for your kitten is a small, quiet room, such as a bedroom or office. Place the carrier in a corner of the room and prepare a cardboard box with a small opening cut into it. Most Ragdoll kittens love cardboard boxes and will happily hide inside for a short time to calm themselves and decompress.

Place the litter box, water fountain, and food bowls on either side of the carrier and cardboard box. This setup makes it easy for your kitten to quickly locate water, food, and the litter box, which is essential for successful litter box training in a new environment. Most kittens need a few hours to settle down and relax. After this initial period, they will begin to explore the entire room. Once they realize the space is safe and non-threatening, their confidence and trust will gradually increase.

This step-by-step transition is especially important for helping Ragdoll kittens adjust smoothly when returning to their new home.

Do Ragdoll Cats Need Food and Water During Travel?

For travel with Ragdoll cats, it is not recommended to provide excessive food or water before departure.
Ragdoll cats are sensitive to stress, and nervousness during travel may cause them to need to use the bathroom. In the confined space of a carrier, this can easily lead to the cat soiling itself. Cleaning a cat in such a limited space is difficult and may increase stress for both the cat and the owner. In addition, the cleaning process itself can further heighten anxiety for Ragdoll cats during long-distance travel.
